By the fall of 2012 I had completed almost two hundred and fifty framed watercolors in this series, and figured a good way to celebrate hitting that milestone was to apply for another exhibit in the lovely, sky-lit gallery at the Benicia library. I was given a month early in spring before festival season began. With help from many generous friends I got it together to hang all of them. Hanging an exhibit of two hundred and fifty pieces was ambitious. They weighed a third of a ton in thirty-five boxes. My sister helped pack ’em up. Both of us worked four hours just to clean the glass. It took a team of people to help hang it over two days and ten more hours to create the index.
Before the invention of photography in the 1840s, all visual images of our history were created by painters and sculptors.
