Nice top 5 list. Sci fi is all I've read this year since I'm writing one. My top 5 authors this year are Becky Chambers, Andy Weir, Martha Wells, Kim Stanley Robinson and yes, Douglas Adams. Your comment about him reminded me of a wonderful mom who wrote, "My kid knew she would be chastised for reading late, but didn't figure out why the batteries in her flashlight never went dead."
