The Other Side—The Dog Doesn’t Die pg5
a colorful companion to my memoir The Incompetent Psychic
“Friends stopped by my back garden to offer heartfelt farewells to Rosie the wonderful, furry old dog. Rosie had a list of favorites to invite and sent me mind pictures. I would see a face and make a call. All the friends Rosie wanted to say good-bye to showed up.” — from the Intro
This Intro title really isn’t misleading in the big picture. At the moment my wonderful old dog transitioned back to the other side, she showed me our souls are eternal and this planet really is only one dimension of many. Rosie left me with no fear of death whatever.
This ceramic memorial sculpture was made at the end of winter in 2004 and is a one third life-size tribute to my furry, 55 pound best friend.
After I showered off the adobe clay from digging a deep grave and planting an apple tree I bought a 25 pound chunk of more clay. Over several days when the grief made it too hard to function very well I made the likeness of my beautiful girl. A friend offered to do the first firing in her kiln, then I took the bisque baked sculpture to the local ‘Paint Your Own’ pottery studio and rented time to use their glaze colors. They dipped her in clear glaze, did the final firing, and Rosie O’Leary has been smiling at me from various window ledges since then. She also hung out at Epperson Gallery in Crockett CA for a while, and got on the cover of the Contra Costa Times Time Out.
