When much younger I wanted to be a painter far more than a mother, but still struggled with that decision. (I've never seen a single woman do both successfully.) Fortunately my own mom said, "If you decide to have kids, don't think for a moment I would want to babysit them." Prevarication problem solved.

45 years later... I'm a successful painter and writer with no regrets about not breeding. None whatsoever.
